The paper shows an application of distribute modeling techniques using a GIS package, together with multicriteria analysis (MCA) for decision support, in the environmental impact assessment of a surface quarry in Tuscany. A comparison is made with more traditional techniques widely in use, such as matricial lumped judgements, thus highlighting the advantages of coupling a geographical approach with MCA in order to minimize the bias due to subjective evaluation. |
