An international collaborative research program has been undertaken to investigate the geometrical design, materials selection and the loading environment of various critical structural members of Load-Haul-Dump (LHD) mining machines manufactured in the Ukraine. Using advanced experimental strain analysis techniques, finite element analysis and computational lifing software (nCode-FATIMAS), the observed premature fatigue failures of the bucket and boom assemblies of these machines were confirmed and recommendations for improving the life were proposed. |
