Gravity-induced hole trajectory deviations in percussive drilling

Title: Gravity-induced hole trajectory deviations in percussive drilling
Author: Sinkala, Thomson
Appeared in: International journal of mining, reclamation and environment
Paging: Volume 10 (1996) nr. 4 pages 187-193
Year: 1996
Contents: In this paper, results of a field study on the phenomena of hole trajectory deviations induced by gravity are presented. In particular, it is observed that small diameter holes deviate upwards, and generally in the vertical plane while large diameter holes deviate downwards, and generally in the vertical plane. Both for small and large diameter holes, practically all holes with this deviation pattern have largest deviations along the vertical plane A theoretical simulation for upward and downward drilled holes is al.w presented. There is a good agreement between results of theoretical simulations and those of field observations
