Surface coal mine operators face decreasing dragline productivity as overburden depths increase. A number of digging methods can be employed to remove overburden at these greater depths. A graphical program which calculates required reach, average production rate, etc. can be utilized to select the digging method or combination of methods which will sustain the highest dragline productivity for a specific machine as overburden depth increases. This paper will briefly describe the methodology and the interactive computer program utilized in applying the average production rate or index approach in this analysis. Results from a typical case 3tudy are included. |
