Vertical communication is enjoying increasing attention amongst communication scientists. In this article an attempt is made to explore mysticism as a way of vertical communication. Mysticism is defined and an introductory perspective is given on the charateristics thereof. The central aspect of mysticism, the Scala Perfectionis or Mystical Way - the stages through which the individual moves vertically to eventually encounter God - is described as a communication process. In conclusion, a brief critical evaluation of mysticism as direct Transcendental Experience is given. |
