Contents: A triangular sandwich finite element with 54 degrees of freedom have been developed. Using this finite element, numerical experiments on sandwich plates have been performed. The aim is to see the influence of support conditions, geometrical dimensions and material properties on the free vibration frequency. This is done by developing analytical expressions for the free vibration frequency as a function of the variable parameters. Some examples are presented to illustrate the behaviour of the finite element used in the development of these expressions. The result from the numerical experiments are given in tables and analytical expressions for calculation of the free vibration frequency are included as well.
