Inhoud: Newly available detailed bathymetric charts in the Atlantic Ocean between latitudes 23°N and 29°N were utilized to compute gravity anomalies, geoidal undulations, and deflections of the vertical due to the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. A compensating suboceanic density model, which has been suggested by the gravity expeditions of the U.S.S. Compass Island and the Vema Cruise 17 for an area farther north, was modified for our region under the guidance of ten isolated gravity measurements by Vening Meinesz, which are located within our latitude band of interest. Considered also was the general pattern of gravity values all over the North Atlantic Ocean outside our area. From the adopted density model and the bathymetric data, detailed gravity profiles with and without compensation were computed across the Mid-Atlantic Ridge at several latitudes for about 20 longitude degrees. The Mid-Atlantic Ridge appears as a wide but relatively low range with a well-defined rift valley. Detailed charts of the geoid undulations and deflection components for the central part of the ridge were computed from the same data. The systematic geoidal slope seen on global charts was incorporated by a datum transformation in order to refer these new local charts to a global reference system.
