Inhoud: What is observed at a tide-gauge station is the local sea-level change with respect to a tide-gauge benchmark of the station. Because of the variety of crustal movement, sea-level changes observed at different tide-gauge stations are incomparable. The observed sea-level changes must be reduced to a common datum, so that an appropriate estimation about the sea-level change along the coast of China can be derived. A proposal to take a so-called coastal land vertical movement isostatic datum as the basis for the reduction is suggested in this article. This datum has been established based on the releveling data of more than 250,000 km from the 1950s to 1980s. The reduction corrections for 15 tide-gauge stations at which the tide-gauge benchmarks have been connected with the leveling network in mainland China at least two times have been derived. For those stations at which no direct connection measurements have been made, an approximate reduction method is given.
