This paper identifies an increasing recognition of the role of “context” in explanations of children's televisual learning. A convergence of such concerns with those articulated in broader discussions of learning, especially in educational settings involving “scaffolding”, is presented. Discussion of selected transcripts suggests that children learn a range of media concepts through talk and activity, and that scaffolding this activity relies on particular pedagogic strategies. Some further directions for such research are indicated. |
