The model described above is not unique. Many voices have been raised in an attempt to bring cohesion to rural change. The ideas expressed here represent an amalgamation of many strands already in existence. The aim of the proposals is to provide a new opportunity to promote positive management of a wide range of landscape features, including sites of ecological, archaeological and agricultural importance. The need has arisen at a time when public demand for a varied, accessible landscape is increasing and when the major land-use, agriculture, is entering a period of change. If these dynamic forces are to controlled, new positive steps need to be taken. |
