This paper is concerned with the problem of thermal stresses in inhomogeneous elastic beams when the temperature distribution is independent of the axial coordinate x3. First, we study the deformation of inhomogeneous and isotropic cylinders when the constitutive coefficients are prescribed functions of the coordinates x1 and x2. Then, the case of elastic cylinders composed of different materials is investigated. The results are used to study the deformation of a circular cylinder with a special kind of inhomogeneity and the problem of a piecewise homogeneous circular cylinder. |
