Contents: In this study an elastic-plastic stress analysis is carried out on a symmetric aluminum metal-matrix laminated plate under thermal forces. The temperature is T 0 and -T 0 at the upper and lower surfaces, respectively. It varies linearly along the sections. The plates are oriented as (0°/90°) 2 , (30°/ -30°) 2 , (45°/ -45°) 2 , and (60°/ -60°) 2 . The Tsai-Hill theory is used as a yield criterion. It is found that plastic yielding begins at the same temperature in all the laminates. The expansion of the plastic region is the same in all the laminates for the same temperature. The magnitudes of the residual stress components are the highest at the upper lower surfaces. However, when the plastic zone expands further the magnitude of the residual stresses becomes the highest at the boundary of the elastic and plastic regions. The material is assumed to be strain hardening.
