Inhoud: To simulate the thermo/mechanically /chemically dominated wear in very high slip rate interfaces involving heavily loaded deformable elastomeric composite media, Part 1 of this series develops the requisite modeling scheme. Included is the development of a new Lagrange-Fourier formulation for conduction and thermally induced material degradation-wear in highly strained media. In this part, a specialized numerical procedure is derived to handle the sharp thermomechanical gradients and concomitant thermo/mechanical/chemical degradation-wear. This is achieved via a computationally efficient telescoping mesh enrichment scheme. The methodology self-adaptivety accommodates the hierarchy of scaling levels in the problem and conforms to the rapidly moving zone of material degradation-deposition and wear. To benchmark the modeling procedure and associated numerical solution algorithm, a series of empirically verified parametric studies are included in the presentation.
