Inhoud: Field theory of thermodynamics with internal state variables is applied to determine the restrictions imposed on the leading thermodynamic functions from which the self-consistent set of constitutive equations is derived. Noncoupling between temperature change and plastic deformation in evaluating the energy functions has been examined. The relation between the two leading functions, namely, the free energy function and the dissipation function, is clarified. The strain hardening effect has been taken into account, and the softening rule of the hardening parameter is naturally introduced into the constitutive equations. Since all the equations are derived strictly from the field theory of nonequilibrium thermodynamics, the established formulation is self-consistent, and the theory developed is applicable to metallic solids with linear or nonlinear dissipation function.
