Here are described in detail the rules for transcribing musical texts written in conventional notation in a notation suitable for recognition, storage and processing by digital computers. The transcription is effected in two different but contiguous stages: the first, known as the external stage, is user-oriented; the second, known as the internal stage, is computer-oriented. Such a system permits the insertion, at any point in the transcription and whenever desired, of instructions or data which allow a continuous interaction between user and programs utilising the transcription. It thus renders the latter open to future development. |
