In this paper the functions of the Australian Committee of Directors and Principals are discussed. An analysis is provided of the Company's submissions to government in the period immediately following the decision to establish a Company to represent all college heads. An attempt is made to explain the sometimes conflicting statements in terms of the Company's mixed objects and particularly in terms of a process of closure, aimed at defining a status for advanced college education. The article suggests that confusion results from the introduction of normative elements in the submissions, under the guise of philosophical expressions about the true nature of college endeavour. |
