This paper describes the supercritical fluid extraction of selected compounds from sand and soil at trace levels. The compounds are selected from various classes of organic compounds. The recovery data are presented and are compared with the results obtained from Soxhlet extractions. The effects of different supercritical fluids, pressures and adsorbent particle sizes are studied. Selective extraction of alkanes is demonstrated. An apparatus built from off-the—shelf HPLC parts is described. |
