A new collection method for airborne dichlorophenoxy herbicides has been developed. Amberlite XAD-2 solid adsorbent is shown to collect 2,4-D compounds efficiently from ambient air. The 2,4-D esters and non-volatile 2,4-D are recovered selectively from the XAD-2 by sequential solvent desorption, and the extraction procedure is compatible with electron-capture gas Chromatographic analysis. The overall sorbent efficiencies for 2,4-D compounds ranged from 81 to 95%.
