Title: Nickel and cadmium inhibition in acidogenesis during anaerobic digestion
Author: Yenigun, Orhan

Appeared in: Journal of environmental science and health. Part A, Toxic/hazardous substances & environmental engineering
Paging: Volume 30 (1995) nr. 5 pages 981-987
Year: 1995-06
Contents: The inhibition of cadmium and nickel ions on the acidogenesis stage in anaerobic treatment was investigated in this study. The anaerobic culture was first acclimated to a glucose substrate in semi-continuous anaerobic reactors. Inhibition of metal ions were investigated by batch experiments. Results were quantified by measuring the total volatile fatty acid (TVFA) production activity of samples. The relative toxicity in the acidogenesis stage was Cd > Ni. Mixtures of metal ions generally exhibited antagonistic effect on inhibition.
