Several brands of imported and local shrimp were collected and concentrations of metals were determined using an inductively coupled argon plasma analyzer. The results of analysis of variance revealed that metal concentrations vary widely (p < 0.05) in shrimp brands. Significantly (p < 0.05) higher arsenic concentrations were found in the shrimp from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Metal concentrations, except arsenic, were below the permissible limits and are expected to pose no health hazards. Health implications of these data are speculated. |
