Extraction of cadmium from industrial phosphoric acid with chelating agents

Title: Extraction of cadmium from industrial phosphoric acid with chelating agents
Author: Norris, Charles D.
Martin, Dean F.
Palmer, Jay W.
Appeared in: Journal of environmental science and health. Part A, Toxic/hazardous substances & environmental engineering
Paging: Volume 27 (1992) nr. 6 pages 1405-1413
Year: 1992-08
Contents: Six commercially available chelating agents were studied as candidates for extraction of cadmium ion in phosphoric acid. The most effective (Duraphos APO 153) was tried with industrial-grade phosphoric acid, but without success. The failure is ascribed to the hypothesis that industrial-grade acid contains humic substances and that these materials retain the cadmium and prevent interaction with chelating agents. The hypothesis is supported by the reported failure to remove iron in industrial-grade acid using ion-exchange resins.
