  Selenium in Human Gallstones

Title: Selenium in Human Gallstones
Author: Bratakos, Michael S.
Ioannou, Panayiotis V.
Appeared in: Journal of environmental science and health. Part A, Toxic/hazardous substances & environmental engineering
Paging: Volume 27 (1992) nr. 3 pages 947-952
Year: 1992-04
Contents: Selenium has been detected and determined fluorimetrically in human gallstones. Calcium carbonate gallstones contain the lowest (i.e., 375 ± 21 ng Se/g) and mixed (black) gallstones contain the highest (i.e., 1159 ± 100 ng Se/g) levels of selenium. We found no correlation between the Se content of gallstones and the gender or age of the patients, and these factors apparently do not influence the accumulation of Se in any type of gallstone.
