Title: Foliar application of phosphorus and residual effect of gypsum on peanuts

Year: 1992-02
Contents: A field study was conducted at Caddo Research Station, Fort Cobb, Oklahoma to evaluate the effect of foliar spray phosphorus and the residual effect of gypsum on yield, sound matured kernel (SMK), and total kernel content (TKC) of Spanish peanuts (Arachis hypogea L.). Gypsum (CaSO4.2H2O) had been applied to the selected field plots for several years prior to the initiation of this experiment. Potassium monobasic phosphate (KH2PO4) solution with the P concentration of 3.5 mg/L was used as a foliar spray. The experiment was carried on for two consecutive years. There was no significant increase in the yield, SMK, and TKC of Spanish peanuts in the first year. We speculate that unfavorable climatic conditions may be the reason for poor performance of foliar spray P in the first year. However, the second year; data indicate that foliar spray P significantly increased the yield and TKC of Spanish peanuts, but foliar spray P did not significantly increase SMK. Residual effect of gypsum per se did not increase yield and TKC of Spanish peanuts in either year. However, it increased SMK significantly in both years. Foliar spray P in combination with the residual effect of gypsum produced the highest yield.
