Eight species and varieties of faecal Streptococci were detected in two hundred water samples collected from fifty five wells distributed near Mosul city. The incidence of Streptococcus faecalis, Streptococcus faecalis var. liquefaciens, Streptococcus faecalis var. zy-mogenes, atypical Streptococcus faecalis, Streptococcus faecium, Streptococcus durans, Streptococcus bovis, and Streptococcus equinus were 26.0%, 4.3%, 3.0%, 13.3%, 1.8%, 1.8%, 24.3% and 25.5% respectively.
