Contents: The aims of the present study were to describe linuron adsorption by two mesic and two humic materials by means of the Freundlich model and the fixed regression model (Model I), and to compare these results with linuron desorption. Linuron adsorption was greater for mesic than humic materials and was negatively related to ash content in the range of 6-37%. Regress ion-analysis indicated r2-values of 0,876 to 0,990** for Freundlich models and 0,995** to 0,999** for fixed models. The main drawback of the Freundlich equation was to compute two variables derived from a single measurement and, thus, to produce an inevitable correlation between the variables and increase the variance, as compared with fixed models. After leaching the soil column with 600 mm of water, the linuron applied at the soil surface remained in the upper 1 cm, thus corroborating the high capacity of organic soil materials for linuron retention.
