Timed releases of cotton leafperforator, Bucculatrix thurberiella Busck, into field cages of cotton, Gossypium spp., showed that this insect is capable of causing heavy damage to a cotton crop if infestations are established early in the season. Pink bollworms, Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders), released into cages caused severe reductions in yield. Although the pressure of both species produced even greater losses, the effects were not totally additive. |
