When domestic wastewaters of a small town were examined for the presence of organochlorine compounds, measurable amounts of chlorinated pesticides and polychlorobiphenyls were detected during a 25-hour as well as a 5-day period. Primary and secondary treatments of these waters eliminate a good portion of these contaminants. The polychlorobiphenyls, especially those with the great number of chlorine atoms show a significant decrease. |
