This paper reviews the present status of Electric Power Plant Siting (PPS) in the United States. Initial discussion includes a review of (a) the status of PPS legislation and (b) the interactions of the various regulator entities involved in the review process of plant sites. Environmental impact statement data and needed technical parameters required for a meaningful evaluation of a plant site are discussed. Special comments are included on considerations of nuclear power plant siting. Alternate power sources now being considered are reviewed. Guidance is given for future study areas where major revisions to present practices are needed. |
