Inhoud: The present paper considers a new method of structural shape optimization by a combined use of finite and boundary element methods (FEM + BEM). The BEM region is taken as the specified part of the initially assumed shape which is successively modified so as to satisfy the desired optimal condition and the given constraints. The remaining region is discretized by finite elements, which may be inhomogeneous or nonlinear, and is thought invariant for the optimization purpose of the structure. Therefore, only the boundary profile of the region rendered discrete by BEM is taken as the design variable or as the design boundary, The method is included in the optimisation algorithm based on the mathematical programming and is implemented as a software for the two dimensional static elasticity analysis. This makes computation more flexible and efficient because a small part of the global stiffness matrix is recomputed during successive iteration. Illustrated examples show the proposed method and some effective results.
