Deviations of the temperature models derived by remote and in situ sensing techniques for the global middle atmosphere

Title: Deviations of the temperature models derived by remote and in situ sensing techniques for the global middle atmosphere
Author: Varotsos, C.
Helmis, C. G.
Appeared in: International journal of remote sensing
Paging: Volume 13 (1992) nr. 16 pages 3127-3133
Year: 1992-11-01
Contents: The intercomparison between the two recently proposed models for the vertical and latitudinal distribution of temperature in the middle atmosphere is presented. The first model is derived from all available radiance measurements made by satellites and the second one from all available rocketsonde-derived measurements. The main deviations between the two models exist (a) at high latitudes at the middle and upper strato-mesosphere, depending on season, and (b) at low and middle latitudes of the Southern hemisphere at the upper mesosphere.
