This story presents the critical life events and professional activity of an ethnic-minority teacherleader that both celebrates and examines how she thinks about and how she does her work. After a year and half of dialogue between the researcher and participant, dialogical journal writing, and reflection, four themes surfaced that captured the participant's teaching and learning priorities: (a) a capacity for empathy and caring, (b) a need to develop connectedness through community, (c) a commitment to personal responsibility, and (d) a strong testament for equity and fairness. Because both the researcher and the participant are identified as ethnic minorities, the themes of ''equity'' and ''moral responsibility'' to educate all children in an inclusive, global environment breathes through the narrative. The researcher's own teaching and learning experiences are shared within the tapestry of her participant's story. |
