Academic psychology has roots both in the natural and in the human sciences. When this adagium is forgotten extremist positions are developed, denying either the biological or the cultural side of human behaviour. In this comment it will be argued that the eloquent treatise by Misra and Gergen (this issue) is a case in point. At the same time a direction of complementarity and possibly convergence will be indicated for the two orientations of “cross-cultural” and “cultural” psychology. More specifically the following points will be raised: |
