  L'illusion de L'identite Perceptive de L'objet

Title: L'illusion de L'identite Perceptive de L'objet
Author: Boudreau, Ginette
Appeared in: International journal of psychology
Paging: Volume 27 (1992) nr. 6 pages 459-475
Year: 1992-12-01
This study had two objectives. One was to measure, at different age levels, the illusion of the identity of an object for different pairs of shapes presented in apparent motion. The other was to determine the effects of continuous transformations on the identification of the same pairs of shapes when presented in apparent motion. A total of 138 children (mean ages: 5;6, 6;6, 7;6) was examined during two sessions. The first presented five pairs of different shapes in apparent motion in order to produce, for each pair, the illusion of identity of an object changing its shape. The second session presented the same pairs of stimuli in apparent motion, but each pair was preceded, individually, by a demonstration of their continuous modification. Non parametrical analyses showed that the illusion of identity of an object is not significantly affected by age or by the demonstration of the transformations. The interpretation suggests that the representation of transformations would constitute a more important factor in the process of identification than the simple perception of these modifications.
