In the first part of this paper existing evidence (mostly from earth and atmospheric sciences) on global climatic changes and their dependence (and effect) upon human action is briefly reviewed. Reference is made to existing major international programmes of research focusing on these climatic changes. The main part of the paper concentrates on the study of global change within the framework of the social sciences. Five psychological characteristics of global environmental change are explained which would account for the human inability to respond adequately without the supportive means of information presentation and processing. Future research on psychological dimensions of global change should explore these in greater detail and study modes of social communication that will become instrumental in implementing such support systems. Dans la premiere partie de cet article, les preuves (provenant surtout des sciences de la terre et de l'atmosphere) concernant les changements climatiques globaux, ainsi que leur dependance (et leurs consequences sur) de l'action humaine sont passees en revue. On y refere aux principaux programmes internationaux de recherche actuels qui touchent a ces changements climatiques. Par ailleurs, le noeud de l'article est consacre a l'etude du changement global suivant la perspective des sciences sociales. Cinq caracteristiques psychologiques du changement global de l'environnement sont presentees en guise d'explication pour l'inhabilete humaine d'y repondre adequatement sans l'appui de moyens de presentation et d'integration de l'information. La recherche future sur les dimensions psychologiques du changement global devrait explorer plus en detail ces caracteristiques et etudier les modes de communication sociale qui pourraient s'averer essentiels pour l'implantation de tels systemes d'appui. |
