The question of obtaining some form of legal recognition of the psychologists in France has been raised many times in recent decades. Most of the time, the professionals themselves attempted to obtain this legal recognition. However, two exceptions deserve some mention. In 1968, the Ministry of National Education called upon Prof. Anzieu (University of Nanterre) to look at the requirements for such recognition. He had to contact every ministry more or less involved with psychologists. Many contradictory opinions were offered and the attempt failed when the ministry was changed. In 1974, a group of Socialist deputies proposed a bill in Parliament. It consisted essentially in recognizing legally a code of ethics for psychologists. That code was essentially the Code of Ethics of the French Society of Psychology established in 1961. |
