Contents: The effects of the incorporation of tetrabutyl orthotitanate (TBOT) on the mechanical, thermal, rheological, and morphological properties of polycarbonate (PC)/ poly(ethylene terephthalate) PET blends were investigated. Blends were prepared using a screw extrusion with TBOT's rates varying from 0 to 0.25 phr. Rheological and mechanical investigations showed that the blends properties decreased by chain scissions induced by the degradation of PET and by volatile products release. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) revealed that the crystallinity of PET in PC/PET blends is affected by many parameters and does not depend only on PC and TBOT concentrations whereas dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) support the occurrence of a little compatibilization.
