Dynamic Mechanical Properties of Block Copolymer Blends—A Study of the Effects of Terminal Chains in Elastomeric Materials

Title: Dynamic Mechanical Properties of Block Copolymer Blends—A Study of the Effects of Terminal Chains in Elastomeric Materials
Author: Cohen, R. E.
Tschoegl, N. W.
Appeared in: International journal of polymeric materials
Paging: Volume 3 (1974) nr. 1 pages 3-22
Year: 1974-01-01
Contents: A mathematical model is presented which describes the phenomenon of entanglement slippage in elastomeric triblock-diblock copolymer blends. Three separate mechanisms, representing the slippage of entanglements between triblock center segments, between center segments and terminal chains, and between terminal chains alone, are incorporated into the model. The contribution of each mechanism to the overall material behavior is calculated on the basis of the concentration and length of the terminal chains in the entanglement network. Predictions of the model compare favorably with previously reported measurements of the mechanical properties of a series of block copolymer blends.
