A nuclear polyhedrosis virus was evaluated in the field against Spodoptera littoralis (Boisd.) larvae on cotton in Egypt. Small plot trials demonstrated that damage in plots sprayed with virus was less than in an untreated control plot. Larger scale trials in light to moderately infested plots showed that a suspension of the virus in water with molasses, a wetting agent and an ultra-violet absorber, applied with a knapsack sprayer with cotton tailboom, was as effective in reducing damage as collecting the egg masses or applying chemical insecticides.
