In Finland self-evaluation has recently become a focus of interest both in the Adult Education Centres, representing popular adult education, and in other sectors of education. One of the goals is to make the findings of such evaluation available to all parties concerned in order to increase mutual understanding and improve the flow of information between the players. Another aim is to give direction to the development of these activities. Three Adult Education Centres in eastern Finland took up the challenge and initiated a project for planning self-evaluation. The project received funding from the National Board of Education. As a result of their joint efforts, the staff of the Adult Education Centres described here produced a system for planning self-evaluation. The first fruits of the project can already be seen, but the real opportunities and benefits it offers will only be realized in the future. |
