Contents: A manufacturer's use of warning labels is primarily influenced by three factors: (1) success in the market place; (2) avoidance of government sanctions by compliance with applicable regulations; and (3) avoidance of civil liability to injured product users by compliance with standards of reasonable care. This article explores the interaction of these influences with emphasis on the influence of litigation.
