Inhoud: Using coke oven gas (COG) efficiently in China is a big problem. In this study, simulated coke oven gas without H2 (CH4-rich gas) was partially oxidized by air with coke powder as support in a porcelain reactor at different reaction conditions. The feasible reaction condition was space velocity 2500h-1, reaction temperature 1050°C, and CH4/O2 = 2. CH4 conversion was 94.1%, and H2/CO in product 0.46∼0.48. Higher reaction temperature can produce more effective syngas component. Adding Ni/Al2O3 catalyst to the coke powder up to more than 15% can improve CH4 conversion. A 20% addition leads to 99.7% of CH4 conversion. Compared with air and rich-O2 air, pure O2 as oxidation medium can lead to H2/CO increase from 0.48 in air atmosphere to 0.93 in pure oxygen atmosphere. However, CH4 conversion showed little variation with different atmosphere. Semi-coke and coke did not show much difference when both were used as support. XRD showed that after reaction, both semi-coke and coke had more regular crystal structure.
