Settling behaviour in op.-amp. circuits when switching on the supply voltages is studied. A special laboratory test circuit has been constructed which enables the taking of the following measurements: settling time of polarization voltages within the op.-amp.; transient responses for various input- and supply-voltage levels; influence of load impedance on transient phenomena; and settling behaviour in the case of time delays between moments of switching of supply voltages. The results of these measurements are described and analysed. New parameters characterizing settling behaviour due to switching on the supply voltages have been introduced, namely the maximum peak voltage level Vpeak and the settling time of polarization voltages within the amplifier t pol These two parameters, together with the slewing rate of the amplifier, could be used in the design of op.-amp. circuits to estimate the time needed by the system to reach the designed operating point, thus avoiding stability problems due to unknown behaviour of op.-amps. when the supply voltages are being switched on. |
