A real-time correlation system suitable for ultrasonic non-destructive testing applications is described. The system which employs bi-phase modulation of the transmitter wave form with a maximal-length sequence and correlation of returned echoes with a delayed replica of the modulating sequence provides an increase in sensitivity without sacrificing range resolution when compared to conventional pulse-echo systems, Implementation details of tho correlator utilizing bit-wise integration and shifting technique as well as the complete testing system are also presented. Experimental results from the operating system are in good agreement with theoretical predictions and confirm tho feasibility of the approach. |
