Contents: A describing function method is stated for a class of non-linear distributed parameter systems which exhibit a structure similar to that of usual non-linear closed-loop systems. The non-linear part F(x, z) and the transfer function W(p, q) are described by their frequency responses in time and space. A deterministic describing function is stated. Concerning the self-oscillations which are symmetrical with respect to z and t respectively, we give an existence criterion and a stability criterion. By using the results so obtained, we give a new stability criterion for the state zero. Storting from this deterministic formulation, a stochastic approach is proposed in the presence of noise frequencies which are outside the passband of W(p, q). A class of statistical linearizations and optimizations is described. The problem of self-oscillations in the presence of noise is determined. Une me thode de terministe du premier harmonique est expose e : les oscillations limites aymetriques sont etudiees. des conditions d'existence et de stabilite sont e none ees. Ensuite, a partir de Cos resultats, on e tablit une condition de stabilite de la position d'equilibre du syste me. La me thode est ensuite modifie e pour prendre en compte des bruits dont le spectre de fre quences est en dehors de la bande passante de W(p, q).
