A numerical method is described which is capable of analysing a non-stationary fluctuation signal into pre-determined frequency bands. The method consists basically of passing the digitized information through the mathematical analogue of a simple resonant LCR filter, the spurious transient response being removed by a kind of iterative process involving the reversal of the time sequence. Some examples based on observation of unstable collisionless plasma are given. |
