The paper deals with the phenomenon of microwave tunnelling through a finite length waveguide filled by plasma, in cut-off conditions. The transmission coefficient of the plasma region is calculated and on this basis a method for the determination of the free-electron density of the plasma is derived. This method is applied in the case of a cold cathode discharge with a double piano geometry inside an X-band waveguide for the experimental study of the plasma density as a function of the discharge current |
