A coupled mode analysis is given for the production of microwave beats by photoelectric mixing or coherent light waves in the distributed emission photomixer. Various conditions of illumination of the photocathode are discussed. These include the use of plane waves taking into account the possibility of attenuation of the beat waves along the photomixer, illumination by radially propagating light waves, and illumination by beams of Gaussian amplitude distribution. |
