The switching conditions of a p-n-p-n triode are normally determined by considering the relation between the effective values of current gain ∝1 and ∝2 of the p-n-p and n-p-ii transistors to which the assembly can be reduced, In the present work base contacts are made to each of the central regions of the device and the condition for breakover, namely ∝1 + ∝2≥1, is confirmed experimentally. It is also found that the voltage across the centre junction reverses its polarity during switching, as predicted by the theory of the device. |
