An exact method of analysis of non-linear systems containing a three-position relay element and a dead-time element is given. Such a system shows two limit cycles, an unstable limit cycle and a stable limit cycle. Expressions are derived to evaluate the period and amplitude of the oscillations. Using the phase-plane concept it is shown that the given system can be stabilized by adding a zero to the second-order transfer function of the rational part. |
