The use of web-based technologies to facilitate the transfer of manufacturing technologies from governmentsponsored R&D programs to the private sector is becoming increasingly common. However, very little is known about how government-sponsored R&D programs are using web-based applications to interact with organizations requiring manufacturing technology. An analytical framework, based upon the product development lifecycle, the technical and business functions of the technology transfer process, and information intensity theory, is used to analyse 10 international government-sponsored web sites designed to facilitate the transfer of manufacturing-related technologies to the commercial sector. The results suggest that government-sponsored web sites should deploy rich media Internet technologies to communicate information content central to the sponsoring organization's mission. |
